No harm will happened to your phone screen if you remove it, but if you leave it and some sand grains or dust will catch between the screen and protector, you will have scratches for sure. In my personal opinion, the peel is totally fine. I'd probably peel it off and install a replacement protector. I've use replacement screen protectors on my Flip 5G, 3, Fold 2 and 3 and it has been great.
