I just picked up a clean 89 Scottsdale that has a 00' LS engine swapped in. It is using a stock 4.8 and ECU, and what I am told is a Painless harness.I think transplanting into a regular GMT400 (non-3500HD) you'd have a hard time shoehorning an Allison in there unless you did trans tunnel surgery or had a body lift. It is correct though that these 2 years of HD's did offer the 8.1, it was either that or you got the 6.5TD. Only 2 engine options those years, no more 7.4.

The easiest would be to get a bellhousing with an external Slave cylinder from an early nv4500. The NV4500 is also a hair longer than the nv3500 and you will either need to cut and paste your existing driveshafts or get driveshafts from a similar year/model from a gmt400.
