NFF does literally 3 of the things you want for followers, many more, and basically all of it is simple and easy to use and easy to ignore if you don't want to use the random other features. When saying "yes", Sofia is added to the 1st slot in NFF. The game then asks me to "Apply recommended Tweak Settings for [..]". And I say "yes" to this question as well. Then, some seconds later, the game tells me that "Sofia is no longer flagged as a Player Teammate and may have been dismissed." And asks me to automatically export her from NFF. ….

It provides a wealth of additional features, including immersion. If you do marry her, she doesn't become a fawning simp either. She's a scholar, but capable and self assured, has her own story but isn't a random chosen hero on her own, and is extremely interactive. She's got a ton of quest commentary and follower interactions. Plus, she's the only companion that comments on Beyond Reach at the moment.
