Welcome to the forum. Your gun is a 38 M&P from about 1950. The serial number is the one on the butt that starts with the letter C. In 1958 S&W started using model numbers. Guns like your 38 M&P became known as the model 10. They are the most commonly produced S&W revolver.It comes from a lineage back to 1899, they begame the model 10 in 1957 and were made in various forms. The 10 dash 6 is known as the heavy barrel variety. Your gun is not as old as you may think, it left the factory in 1965, so it is getting some age on it though. Hope that helps. ….
