Your description is losing signal switching from unicast (when first go on a channel for 10-15 seconds) to multicast.... your switch or a device connected to your switch is preventing the multicast signal..

As I said, my usual approach would be to restart the gateway and dvr, and the freeze problem would go away...for maybe a day or two. But instead of restarting anything, I followed your suggestion... I unplugged my wifi repeater... the tv kept playing past the 4-1/2 minute mark, and even past 9 minutes...
